LEARN HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR ARTWORK (2D & 3D)
SAT 4 September at Colac Makers Space

A workshop with Master Photographer, David Simmonds
AIPP Double Master & Life Member, B. Arts (photog.) RMIT (with distinction)
Award winning professional photographer for over 40 years
Previously taught at the Australian Academy of Design

Making professional standard photographs (files or prints) of your artwork is so important. Many hours, months and even years have gone into creating your work before you are ready to show it to the world.

But you still have one last challenge - sending high quality photos (files) of your work in submissions for curated exhibitions, competitions, publications and looking great on social media. These days the technical conditions of entry are demanding. Your photography must do your artwork justice and have impact to cut through. And your files meet exact specifications.

Photographer and tutor, David Simmonds, will show you how it can be done with whatever lighting you have available, simply and inexpensively. Even if all you have is your mobile phone camera.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn:

(a) Capturing your image
1. Types of light – not all light is white or neutral
2. Setting up for success - getting your work level, vertical, parallel & evenly lit
3. Different light set ups for 3D vs 2D works
4. Controlling your light – simply reflectors and backgrounds
5. Understanding your artwork’s medium and how it reflects light

(b) File processing for submissions & publication
7. Colour accuracy - technical vs emotional
8. Sharpening - what is it and when to use it
9. Cropping – for maximum impact
10. File sizes, types and resolution – what do I need?
11. Files for web or print - what’s the difference?

You’ll take home professional quality image files of up to 3 of your works, a comprehensive set of notes. On registration you will receive a full list of what to bring to the workshop. All participants will receive a special gift offer from Tim Lucas Natural Digital of an A3 Hahnemuhle fine art print of your work.
All prints to be collected from Tim’s studio just minutes out of Colac.
