Same Space, Same Place, New Name
They say time flies when you are having fun!   It is hard to believe that it is already 10 months since our first Dreaming Session at the senior citizens in February 2019.  We have achieved so much in that time. So much so that with the continued support of Creative Otways Inc we found ourselves in the position to be able to create our own organisation.  At our special meeting on 16th December our members voted in favour of us becoming an incorporated organisation. We are now known as Colac Makers’ Space Incorporated.
We thought it may take a while to apply and obtain approval but because we have been running a fairly tight ship the whole process only took about 20 minutes.
All this is administration and not much fun but it does mean that now we can apply for funding in our own name, support our members in obtaining grants for their special projects, have our own bank account, own our materials and equipment, and sign our own leases, carry our own insurance and even, in the future,  purchase our own property!
We will soon be members of Regional Arts Victoria and will benefit directly from all that organisation has to offer.
…anyway…now on to the fun stuff……

Members Social Event – THIS FRIDAY !
And the first fun activity is the reintroduction of our social evening. We held them regularly when we were in the Guide Hall and just beginning but somehow in the move to the Makers’ Space these were forgotten.
So this Friday 10 January, 5.30pm to 7pm and every second Friday of the month thereafter join us and other members for a catch-up to talk art, plan trips to galleries, share ideas for a new work.  Stay for 10 minutes or a couple of hours.
If you have a something you want to share with the group, let us know and we will give you the floor for 10 minutes, longer if you make us laugh !
We will serve nibbles, tea and coffee. BYO beverages and restricted diet nibbles if required. Members Free, non-members gold coin donation.

OPPORTUNITIES
CROSSXPOLLINATION
Oscar Wilde famously said life was too important to be taken seriously; while John Lennon believed that life was what happened when you were busy making other plans.
Whichever way you view 'Life', it provides a rich canvas for fibre and textile artists to interpret as the theme for CrossXpollinatioN 2020.
The 'Life' theme has been inspired by next year’s feature artist Andrew John Delaney, whose work will span life, death and the things that exist between.
It's time to get inspired!  Exact dates are still being finalised for this year exhibition, artists should plan on having their pieces ready to photograph by late April/early May; in preparation for a June/July exhibition.

TAKE YOUR PARTNERS
Do you have great memories of COPACC's Civic Hall? Maybe you gave the performance of your life in there, or met your soul mate at a dance?
The Colac Civic Hall turns 60 in March 2020, and we need your help to collect photos, stories and other memorabilia of its fabulous history.
We know there will be great pics out there of school balls, Battle of the Bands, Colac Players shows - you name it!
Jump on the COPACC website to find out how you can share your best memories of the Civic Hall with us as part of the 'Take Your Partners' project - http://www.copacc.com.au/Exhibitions/Take-Your-Partners
The memorabilia will be curated by the Colac Makers’ Space, Colac History Centre and Family History Centre volunteers and assembled into a ‘Take your Partners’ exhibition to go on display in the COPACC foyer in March 2020, which coincides with the Civic Hall’s official opening in 1960.
During January and February we will be running workshops to create artworks for the Take You Partners exhibition. Details follow below.

VISITING ARTISTS
FEBRUARY
Talks are in progress with CC, a Hong Kong artist, who is planning to visit the Makers’ Space during February to share her expertise with the Monday Contemporary Art and Printmaking group. We are still very much in the planning stage and more details will follow.

The workshop will be followed later in the day with a talk about the situation in Hong Kong artist’s response to the protests.

Spaces to the workshop are limited to the Monday group initially, followed by members only. Register your interest for the workshop or talk by email to colaccommunityartspace@gmail.com

WEEKEND DELIGHTS
DRAWING WORKSHOPS with Judith Rochecouste
Given the success of our Drawing Tasters in December, the Makers’ Space will continue with monthly Drawing Workshop during 2020 on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 10am - 1pm beginning February 16th 2020. (Unless it’s some sort of celebration, like Easter).
As previously, all skill levels are welcome. $30 per session (members and concession)    $55 non-members
Bookings can be made on the booking email bookingsmakersspace@gmail.com , but "drop in and draw" also encouraged.

TAKE YOUR PARTNERS WORKSHOPS
March 2020 marks the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Colac Civic Hall and the Colac Makers Space is helping to celebrate the occasion.   The Take Your Partners Exhibition is exhibition of small works, 15cm square, on the theme of the Colac Civic Hall.
We invite the community to come join in a workshop – painting, drawing, stitching, mixed media, or collage and create a small work for the exhibition. Each workshop will be run by 2 experienced artists and are open to all skill levels, ages 5 to 105.
Workshops will be run over 5 weekends from 18 January to 16 February, at 10am and 12 pm or 2pm and 4pm.
Sessions will run for 90 minutes and children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Spaces are limited to 10 people.
Workshops are free but bookings are essential. Send email to bookingsmakersspace@gmail.com  stating date and time of session.
